"I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances." - Brian Tracy

It's Labor Day in the USA, the unofficial end of Summer, as well as being the official Closing Day for the current Del Mar meet. Since Closing Day means mandatory payouts for all pools, then I'm going to take a chance at getting the top prize, and take another run at The Rainbow Pick Six at the place Where The Turf Meets The Surf.

RACE 5 - [S] Md $50k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 8 Hay Juan (Morning Line 5-2)

B's

# 7 Chris Fix (ML 3-1)

# 9 Eye Candy Randy (ML 4-1)

C's

# 1 Summanus (ML 6-1)

# 2 Mondale (ML 6-1) # 3 Heaven's Music (ML 20-1)

# 4 Empire's Fire (ML 15-1)

# 5 Nationwide Pride (ML 15-1)

# 6 Medina Man (ML 20-1) # 10 Big Speech (ML 12-1)

Scratch the Also Eligibles: # 11 Big Swede (ML 20-1); # 12 Toasted At Dawn (ML 8-1); # 13 Thirsty Chapo (ML 3-1); # 14 I Know Cash Flow (ML 2-1)

Hay Juan and Eye Candy Randy both showed good early speed against non-Claiming Maidens last time out. Chris Fix could be the one running best late. The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 6 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Althea Gibson (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 11 She's So Nice (Ire) (ML 4-1)

C's

# 1 Anonymously (ML 8-1)

# 2 Fantail (GB) (ML 15-1)

# 3 Valpolicella (GB) (ML 20-1)

# 4 September Secret (ML 12-1)

# 6 A G Indy (ML 8-1) # 7 Deise Delight (Ire) (ML 6-1)

# 8 Donut Girl (ML 20-1)

# 9 Vegas Palm (ML 10-1) # 10 Nu Pi Lambda (ML 5-1)

# 12 Roses and Candy (ML 20-1)

Scratch the Also Eligibles: # 13 Miss Carousel (ML 5-1) and # 14 Sweet Soulmate (ML 20-1)

For those who note such things, none of the entrants here will be running with the $40k price tag on their head.

Althea Gibson graduated over this turf course at today's distance last year, and Althea Gibson has been working well for her return off the extended vacation. She's So Nice (Ire), like Althea Gibson, is trained by Phil D'Amato; and She's So Nice should some good early speed in her races overseas; something that you don't often see with European imports.

If you want to expand your ticket, you may wish to consider Nu Pi Lambda, as Nu Pi Lambda certainly fits well with the contenders here. Personally I decided that Nu Pi Lambda settles for far too many minor awards; so for me, Nu Pi Lambda will be joining the rest of the remaining runners as a backup "C" Selection.

RACE 7 - OC 40k/N1X - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 8 Indimaaj (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 3 Divine Armor (ML 8-1)

# 7 Laurel River (ML 3-1)

C's

# 2 Direct Line (ML 6-1)

# 4 Proverb (ML 10-1)

# 6 Butkus (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 1 Leading Score (ML 5-2) and # 5 Final Jeopardy (ML 5-1)

Among the runners that are expected to leave the gate, Proverb will be the only one that will be eligible to be claimed for $40k.

Indimaaj, a well beaten second at this class level last time out, could improve going second off the layoff. Divine Armor took the Show at this class level last time out.

Laurel River, trained by Bob Baffert, is Graded Stakes Placed. The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 8 - The Del Mar Juvenile Turf $100k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Mackinnon (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Silver Surfer (GB) (ML 5-2)

# 2 My Mane Champ (ML 12-1)

# 3 Mogollon Rim (ML 6-1)

# 4 Shortman (ML 30-1)

# 6 Aquitania Arrival (ML 5-1)

# 7 Thirty Four Coupe (ML 15-1)

# 8 Optimising (Ire) (ML 3-1)

# 9 Socal Red (ML 20-1)

There is no shortage of good runners in this field, and it would not be difficult to make the case for going four or five deep in this leg. But Mackinnon, trained by Doug O'Neill, is the only entrant here with a victory over this turf course, and Mackinnon is the only runner in this field with a win going around two turns on grass. So this is where I'll be making my stand, using Mackinnon as a single on the main ticket, with all others relegated to being backup "C" Selections.

RACE 9 - The Del Mar Futurity (Grade 1) - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 1 Pappacap (ML 3-1)

B's

# 5 Murray (ML 2-1)

C's

# 2 Olympic Legend (ML 12-1) # 3 Finneus (ML 12-1)

# 4 Pinehurst (ML 5-2)

# 6 American Xperiment (ML 5-2)

Pappacap, trained by Mark Casse, won the Grade 2 Best Pal over this main track last time out. Murray, trained by Bob Baffert, was dominate in his debut last time out. The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 10 - Alw 50000s N2L - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 9 Algeria (Ire) (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Tembo (ML 6-1)

# 2 Ox Bridge (ML 4-1)

# 3 Cane Creek Road (ML 10-1)

# 4 Muay Thai (Ire) (ML 8-1)

# 5 General Mathis (ML 4-1)

# 6 Brother Reid (ML 12-1)

# 7 Stone's River (ML 6-1)

# 8 Drop Anchor (ML 20-1)

# 10 Zippy Baby (ML 12-1)

C's

None

Note for future reference that this contest is for runners which have not won two races in their career. For the record, Brother Reid is racing above his conditions, as Brother Reid is still a maiden.

I couldn't make heads nor tails of this event; so if by the grace of The Almighty I manage to get the first five legs in this sequence correct, then I'm making sure that I'm going to collect. So it's everybody into the pool for this race, as I punch the "ALL" button.

OK, that's the analysis. Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 8 with 5 with 8 with 5 with 1 with 9 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 7,8,9 with 5,11 with 3,7,8 with 5 with 1,5 with ALL $72.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 1,2,3,4,5,6,10 with 5 with 8 with 5 with 1 with 9 $1.40

$0.20 P6: 8 with 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9,10,12 with 8 with 5 with 1 with 9 $2.00

$0.20 P6: 8 with 5 with 2,4,6 with 5 with 1 with 9 $0.60

$0.20 P6: 8 with 5 with 8 with 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 with 1 with 9 $1.60

$0.20 P6: 8 with 5 with 8 with 5 with 2,3,4,6 with 9 $0.80

Total: $79.40

Post Time for Race 5 is 6:35 EDT / 3:35 PDT. Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

Long story short, despite all the problems with the previous site, that place was much easier to manage than this one. So back I go. ...
